This ingenious board uses wooden squares coloured red on the front and blue on the back to represent numbers up to 10. Children can place the squares into a slot to make a line of 10 squares. By picking, placing and then counting them they can confirm the number being counted is the same as the numeral shown above the slot and is the same as the number of dots shown. Turning the counters over or using the different colours to represent smaller sub denominations enables children to begin to add numbers together. Taking squares away from a slot enables children to begin to understand subtraction. The board also represents all the combinations of number bonds to 10.
